Ingredients
1 tsp. whole wheat flour
1 tube (8 oz.) reduced fat crescent rolls
(We used Pillsbury Reduced Fat Crescents.)
1 packet (12 oz.) veggie sausage
We tested with two types:
Lightlife Smart Sausages Meatless Italian &
Field Roast Grain Meat Mexican Chipotle Vegetarian
buttery cooking spray
4 tsp. Parmesan cheese, grated
1 tsp. dried oregano
These tasty morsels prove you don’t have to serve meat to have a deliciously savory appetizer at your next party. If you’re going to be pressed for time, make them the night before and refrigerate them. Then put them in a slow cooker on low to heat them up and keep them warm for the party.
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Open the croissant package and divide it into 4 pieces. (Each pair of croissants makes a rectangle.)
3. On a very lightly floured surface, lay the rectangle of croissants out and use a roller to flatten it more. Place a veggie sausage along the narrow end and roll it up. Continue rolling the sausage until the croissant is evenly covering it from end to end. Repeat for all four sausages.
4. Mix together the Parmesan cheese and dried oregano. Then lightly coat each sausage with the buttery cooking spray and roll them in the cheese and oregano mix until covered.
5. Cut the sausages in half, then cut each half into 3 parts. (Each sausage ends up in 6 pieces.)
6. Place the sausages flat on an ungreased baking tray and bake for 8-11 minutes. They are ready when they start turning a golden brown.
7. Once the sausages are finished, remove from the oven and let them cool for a couple minutes. I like to flip them over when I put them on the plate, the bottom side is always nicely browned. Then serve them with ketchup or barbecue sauce for dipping. You can add a toothpick in the middle of each one to make them an easier to eat finger food.
