Ingredients


1 cup wheat berries

1 cinnamon stick

2 Tbsp. orange zest

1 2-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and halved lengthwise

1/2 tsp. nutmeg, ground

1/8 tsp. allspice, ground

1/8 tsp. cloves, ground

1/8 tsp. of salt (pinch)

2 Tbsp. lite butter

2 Tbsp. molasses

3.5 cups water

TOPPINGS

1/2 cup fat free milk

2 Tbsp. sliced almonds

1/4 cup raisins

Splenda or stevia to taste


Throw these ingredients together in a crock pot (with an automatic shut-off) before you go to bed. Wake up to the delicious smell of spices and a fresh cooked breakfast.

Wheat Berries

1. Put the first 10 ingredients, wheat berries through molasses into a slow-cooker. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours.

2. Remove and discard the cinnamon stick and ginger. Divide between 4 bowls, about 1/2 a cup per serving and add toppings.

Toppings

3. AMOUNT OF TOPPING PER SERVING,

  • 2 tablespoons of fat free milk
  • 1/2 tablespoon of sliced almonds
  • 1 tablespoon of raisins
  • Splenda or stevia to taste.

Yield: 4 Servings


Molasses and Spice Wheat Berries - Crock Pot (Slow Cooker) 

This is a Freezer Friendly Recipe!

You can freeze individual servings of the wheat berry mixture and when you're ready, microwave it for approximately 1.5 - 2 minutes. Then add the toppings.

Keep the container open to allow steam to escape.
