Bush's Best Zero Sugar Added Baked Beans

President Herbert Hoover promised a chicken in every pot. What people got instead was pasta, beans, tomatoes and hot dogs, because that's what a nickel bought. Nobody in 1932 was checking the macros.

We swapped in protein rotini, zero-sugar-added baked beans and vegan hot dogs, and the old cheap dinner turned into 31 grams of protein, 25 grams of fiber and 4% fat in 573 calories. It's meat free, freezes for three months, and beats most things with "power bowl" in the name.

1. Fill a large pot with 2 qt. of water, about 8 cups, and set it over high heat to come to a boil.

2. While the water heats, warm a frying pan over medium heat and coat it lightly with olive oil spray. Add the hot dogs and cook 6 to 7 minutes, turning frequently, until every side is lightly browned. Cut them into bite sized pieces and set aside.
